Q&A with Nour

Which musician would you like to play with?

James Craft

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?

My goal is always to make students feel motivated and capable, not just to play the right notes but to really enjoy the process. A lot of students learn finger exercises or scales without understanding how they fit into real music. I focus on making sure students not only build solid technical skills but also feel how those skills let them create beautiful sounds.

How did you learn to play your instrument?

I started learning piano when I was 10. I worked with a few different teachers growing up, and I remember both the parts that were exciting and the parts that were frustrating. Over time, I learned how important it is to combine solid technique with creativity and enjoyment. That experience shaped the way I teach today—I try to give my students the kind of support and encouragement I needed when I was learning.

What equipment do you play on today?

Piano, Violin, Guitar, Drums, and recording equipment. While piano is my main instrument, I enjoy exploring others because it keeps me curious and creative, gives me fresh perspectives on rhythm, sound, and expression, and ultimately helps me bring a broader, more well-rounded approach to my teaching.

Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?

Patience, persistence, and curiosity have helped me the most while practicing. Patience keeps me focused on the process, persistence pushes me through challenges, and curiosity keeps me motivated to explore new pieces and techniques, all of which are qualities I try to inspire in my students.

What does your instrument have that others don't?

The piano is unique because it allows one person to play both melody and harmony at the same time, covering a wide range of notes. Its versatility makes it incredibly expressive, and its visual layout makes learning theory and understanding music much clearer than many other instruments. It is always recommended to learn the piano for at least six months before learning any other instrument.

How do you handle children?

I’ve spent my career teaching kids, I like to make lessons fun and interactive while focusing on building their skills and confidence. I also prioritize listening to their opinions, respecting their boundaries, and helping them express themselves through music, so they feel empowered and motivated to learn.

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?

One of the things I love most about music is its ability to bring people together and create a sense of peace. Whether I’m teaching, performing, or composing, every musical experience is an opportunity to connect with others and inspire calm, joy, and shared understanding.
