About Mauricio
Since arriving in Los Angeles, several of Mauricio's students have won concerto competitions with regional orchestras and at solo string competitions. Needless to say, he's fantastic.
Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music ’97 with academic honors. Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Michigan ’99. Attended the Festival Santander, Spain in ’92, the Aspen Music Festival in ’94 and ’98, and the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) in Breckenridge, Colorado in ’96 and ’97. Performed chamber music recitals with the Humboldt String Quartet and Trio Académico Emil Friedman in various chamber music series in Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and England. Soloist with Virtuosi de Caracas. In 2002, was invited to Bogotá with the Humboldt String Quartet to adjudicate the Second String Instruments Competition organized by the Batuta Foundation. In 2003, was invited by the Mexican Cervantino Festival to Campeche, Ciudad de México, Guanajuato, and Pachuca. Discography includes music by Manena Contreras, Alfredo Rugeles, Camerata Criolla, and Virtuosi de Caracas. Chamber music collaborations with renowned artists Errolyn Wallen, Alexandre Tharaud, Quatuor Stanislas, Ensamble Gurrufio, and others.

What equipment do you play on today?
I have two cellos: one by a female Italian maker (Lucia Valli) and one by a L.A. maker

Patience!

Different personalities!
How do you handle children?
With a bit of humor, with honesty, patience and love
What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
There isn't one in particular. In general, being able to travel around the world playing the cello

The Tent at the Aspen Music Festival
Which record would you take with you to the desert island?
I would probably take a record of "El último de la fila" (a Spanish rock band with an Andalusian flavor)
